Buying and hanging curtains had taken on an overly symbolic overtone.  There was something about putting them up that seemed to mark her presence in the space as somewhat permanent.  As she stood on the step stool driving anchors into the wall, she couldn’t help but notice that the anchors might be more metaphorical than literal.
