Summer had a slow sticky rhythm, of hot days and warm nights.  Of exploring the new neighborhood, movies in dark spaces, of listening to the final episode of a Prairie Home Companion.  Fall brought a reality check and a hyper focus on what needed to get done, of stops and starts.  She’d scrubbed the house when the weather started to change.  Threw open the windows to let in the fall breeze and moped the floor with almond scented soap.  And now winter was making its presence known, more blankets were added to the bed and she started wearing socks inside.  While fall had been chaotic and angststy she could feel an optimistic calm setting in with the cold.
